Outfolk Field School: Intro to Camping

Outfolk Field School is our hands-on workshop series designed to build real-world outdoor skills in a welcoming, community-centered space. This session, Intro to Camping, is your starting point.

Whether you’ve never slept in a tent or you’re looking to feel more prepared for your first trip, this workshop will walk you through the essentials with clarity, care, and zero judgment.

Together, we’ll cover:

✨ How to choose the right campsite (car camping vs. backpacking)
✨ Gear basics, like what you actually need (and what you don’t)
✨ How to set up a tent + build a comfortable sleep system
✨ Simple, approachable camp cooking
✨ Safety, trip planning, and Leave No Trace principles
✨ Tips for going solo or camping with community

This isn’t about doing it perfectly, it’s about helping you feel confident enough to begin.

Expect a mix of live demos, practical guidance, and space to ask the questions you’ve been holding back. You’ll leave with a clear path forward, helpful resources, and the sense that the outdoors is truly for you.

What to Bring:

  • Water + snacks

  • Notebook (optional)

  • Your curiosity

Who It’s For:

Beginners, aspiring campers, and anyone looking to build confidence outdoors in a supportive, inclusive environment. Come as you are. Leave ready to camp.

*Location will be shared in confirmation email ahead of workshop.
